Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig, May 16, 1937 from May 16, 1937 until August 17, 2015. She was an American actress and ballet-dancer popular for her performances as Batgirl in the 1960s' tv show Batman and Marta her character, the Orion slave girl Marta from Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Deceive" (1969). The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" in the world of television. Yvonne Craig was born and raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951 , her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. There , she was a student at W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas and Sunset High School. However, she did not graduate as she didn't have "one credits for PE". Craig was a part of Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the youngest corps de ballerina after being identified by Alexandra Danilova who is a instructor and dancer. It was a wonderful experience that enabled her to do stunts in the role of Batgirl. In 1957, she left the ballet company "over an issue with changes to casting". She moved to Los Angeles in hopes of continuing her dance career. But, she was soon cast in film roles. One of her first TV appearances was on the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover") in the year 1958 with Neil Hamilton. Hamilton later played the role of Batgirl's stepfather Commissioner James Gordon. The actress was featured in three movies shortly after, The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story and Gidget (all 1959). Craig also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky, as Beverly Mills, in the episode "Little Miss Wow", also 1959. Craig played with Bing Crosby in High Time (1960) as well as in Seven Women from Hell (1961) was a co-star with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she appeared in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig played the role of Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also starred in the science fiction film Mars Needs Women (1966) as well as in In Like Flint (1967) as the role of a Russian dancer who was paired with James Coburn.
